What Is FUE?

FUE involves extracting individual hair follicles one by one from the donor area, typically the back or sides of the scalp, using a small punch tool.

What Is FUT?

FUT involves excising a thin strip of scalp from the donor area, which is then dissected into individual follicular units ready for transplantation.

Benefits of FUT include:

  • Higher graft yield per session
  • Potentially lower cost per graft
  • Ideal for restoring larger areas
  • Surrounding hair can be left longer

FUT is ideal for delivering maximum density over fewer transplant procedures, however the trade-off is a linear scar and a slightly longer healing period. This method is also used for most eyebrow transplants as the surrounding hair can be left longer.

Which Is Right for You?

Your choice depends on multiple factors; the extent of hair loss, donor supply, hairstyle preferences, budget, and recovery needs. While FUE avoids linear scars, it may require shaving the donor area. FUT enables denser results sooner but commits to longer hairstyles to mask the linear scar.

What to Expect?

Both FUE and FUT surgery are in-office procedures performed under local anesthesia. Hair restoration surgery can take 4-12 hours depending on the type of surgery and number of grafts needed.
