TrichoLAB is a hair-analysis service based on specialized trichoscopy measurements that can provide precise data on the health of a patients scalp and hair that can be valuable in planning hair restoration. TrichoLAB is an analytic tool, not a treatment in itself.

Rather than relying on visual examination or standard photographs, TrichoLAB is designed to help professionals compare defined scalp areas and evaluate changes over time.

At Linkov Hair Surgery, the best-in-class hair restoration surgeon Dr. Gary Linkov offers TrichoLAB to obtain additional objective measurements to compliment hair restoration planning, as well as to assess whether a current treatment plan is producing measurable results.

Understanding hair loss, hair growth, and treatment progress before undergoing hair restoration helps us build a confident picture of where your hair and scalp is at.

    What is TrichoLAB?

TrichoLAB combines trichoscopy digital imaging with objective analysis to help create a clearer picture of a patient’s hair. It is non-invasive.

During the process, a highly specialized magnifying camera is used to examine details that are difficult or impossible to assess with the naked eye, including:

    • Individual hair shafts quality
    • Hair thickness and variation
    • Hair follicle openings
    • The skin surrounding the follicles
    • Scalp redness, scaling, pigmentation, and other surface conditions
    • The distribution of hairs across a defined area

TrichoLAB is designed to support treatment monitoring and assist with planning hair-restoration and transplant procedures. By examining the scalp and hair in much greater detail, we can better evaluate hair, identify concerns that may impact results, and monitor changes over time.

    Hair to Hair Matching®

Hair to Hair Matching® is based on the Follicular Map concept. It matches baseline and follow-up images at the individual-hair level, allowing for precise measurements and accurate assessment of change between examinations. It allows for the same hairs to be compared over time over time rather than relying on general visual impressions.

    Virtual Tattoo®

Virtual Tattoo® helps ensure that follow-up imaging is performed on the same scalp area as the original examination. By reducing the possibility of photographing a different location, the technology supports more reliable measurements.

    Why Use Objective Measurements?

Hair can appear different from one day to the next because of lighting, styling, hair length, moisture, and camera angle. These variables can make it difficult to determine whether a treatment is genuinely producing change.

Standardized analysis can provide a more consistent basis for discussion. It can help professionals establish a baseline, compare follow-up examinations, and explain findings in a way that clients can understand.

For clients, seeing measurable information may make treatment discussions more transparent. For professionals, it can support more structured monitoring and clearer communication.

    How the Service Works

    A TrichoLAB assessment typically includes:

    Initial Consultation

To discuss your needs and the information you want to obtain.

    Standardized Hair and Scalp Imaging

Selected areas of the scalp are photographed using the appropriate imaging process.

    Image Matching and Analysis

TrichoLAB technology supports comparison of baseline and follow-up images and the measurement of relevant hair characteristics.

    Professional Review

The findings are reviewed in relation to the client’s goals, history, and overall assessment.

    Ongoing Monitoring or Planning

Repeat analysis may be used to monitor treatment progress or support hair-transplant planning where and when appropriate.

    TrichoLAB for Treatment Monitoring

Because hair growth is so gradual, improvements are notoriously difficult to track. TrichoLAB can help create a documented baseline for consistent follow-up comparisons and help determine whether hair loss is stable or progressive, whether further monitoring is necessary, and whether results align with hair growth expectations.

TrichoLAB can be an objective way to monitor the effects of medical hair loss therapy (such as finasteride and/or minoxidil) and in-office treatments, such as microneedling, PRP, and exosomes.

TrichoLAB cannot independently determine a diagnosis or guarantee a treatment success. It provides accurate measurement and analysis tools to support your hair journey.
